The San Fernando Valley JACL mourns the loss of our dear friend and former chapter president Tak Yamamoto, who passed away on November 9, 2012. Tak was a fierce civil rights advocate who bridged the worlds of Asian American and LGBT activism. His passion helped build the annual Manzanar Pilgrimage. In his capacity as president of our chapter, he helped push the National JACL to adopt marriage equality as part of its civil rights platform almost twenty years ago.
Board members Phil Shigekuni and Harold Kameya will provide a more elaborate reflection on Tak's legacy in our forthcoming newsletter. In the meantime, please take a moment to see what our friends at the Manzanar Committee have to say about Tak here.
May he rest in peace and power.
