Community-Based Programs for the Everyone in the Family

Our local, community-based chapter provides something for every member of the family.  In addition to policy advocacy and a scholarship program, we sponsor a host of social events.  In the past year alone, some of our events have included...

  • An installation/New Year's luncheon at the beautiful Odyssey Restaurant
  • Sponsoring Suzume no Gakkou, an educational and cultural program for local youth that included arts, crafts, history and language lessons, and a field trip to the Japanese American National Museum
  • Participation in cultural and historical events such as our San Fernando Valley Obon and and Day of Remembrance
  • Outings to see performances including Wrinkles at East West Players
  • Civil rights programming such as the panel Honor Thy Children about LGBT rights in Asian American communities
  • Cultural programs highlighting our Japanese American and Asian American community such as Children's Day and the annual Clean Up Day at the Japanese American Community Center
  • Commitment to the elders who built our community through our annual Nikkei Village Tea
  • Bringing the community-based arts to the San Fernando Valley through a screening of The Harimaya Bridge with a discussion with the filmmaker as well as a performance of Manzanar: The Story of An American Family

A membership form is available for download here and at the bottom of this page.  Remember to write San Fernando Valley for your chapter.
